Course Information
This course will introduce you to the practice, management and principles of urethral, supra pubic and intermittent catheterisation. The course is face to face and bookable via the Learning and Development prospectus.
Learning Outcomes

 

At the end of the course delegates should be able to:
  • Define the anatomy and physiology of the genito-urinary tract
  • Identify clinical indications for catheterisation
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the different types of catheters and drainage systems used in the community
  • Show understanding of holistic assessment and care planning of patients requiring catheterisation Adhere to current Trust clinical policies for Continence Care
  • Refer to the Bladder and Bowel Manual
  • Consent and record keeping
Target Audience
• Attendance should be discussed and agreed with Line Manager prior to undertaking the course and a named mentor identified to support learning in practice. • The course is aimed at Nursing staff who perform urinary catheterisation including District Nurses, Community Matrons, ICRAS and the ICN (integrated Community Nursing)
