Course Information
In this module we look at the definition of palliative care, end of life care & the dying phase. We will also discuss the DH 5 priorities for the care of the dying patient and the role of the DN in providing this care. We will also look at the 4 domains of holistic assessment of the palliative patient. This includes: • Physical assessment • Psychological assessment • Social assessment • Spiritual assessment
Learning Outcomes

At the end of the session the DN should be able to:

·         Define palliative care
·         Define EOL care
·         Define the dying phase
·         Identify the 5 priorities for the care of the dying patient
·         Explain the role of the DN team in EOL care and Identify the 4 domains of holistic assessment
