Course Information
In this module we will look at: • The Definition of pain • Key components of pain assessment • The principals of pain management • Pain assessment for patients with cognitive impairment • Weak & strong opioids • Definition of breakthrough pain. • Management breakthrough pain • Use of Adjuvants • Opioid toxicity
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the session colleagues should be able to:
 
  • Identify key components of pain assessment
  • Describe the principals of pain management
  • Describe the WHO analgesic step ladder
  • Describe breakthrough pain and its management
  • Identify adjuvant drugs
  • Describe signs of opioid toxicity
  • Learn about assessing pain accurately, different types of pain and management of different types of pain
