Course Information
• This module covers the management of the patient in the dying phase and includes: The DH 5 priorities for care of the patient in the last days & hours of life • Priority 1: Recognising the dying phase • Priority 2: Sensitive communication • Priority 3:Treatment decisions • Priority 4:The needs of the family • Priority 5: The EOL care plan
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the session colleagues should be able to:
 
  • List the DH 5 priorities for care of the dying patient
  • Identify  signs of a dying patient
  • List potentially reversible causes for a patient’s deterioration
  • Identify key considerations in care of the dying patient
  • Identify what an MDT agreement is.
  • Care of the patient in the dying phase
