In this module we look at the common symptoms a patient might experience in the dying phase & how to manage these symptoms. This includes:
• Anticipatory prescribing
• Ethical & legal aspect
• Concerns – patient, family, nurse
• Algorithms:
• Management of pain
• Terminal restlessness
• Respiratory tract secretions
• Breathlessness
• Nausea & vomiting

At the
end of the session colleagues should be able to:

Identify how to manage common symptoms including non-pharmacological interventions
- Discuss ethical & legal issues relating to anticipatory prescribing
