Course Information
In this module we look at the common symptoms a patient might experience in the dying phase & how to manage these symptoms. This includes: • Anticipatory prescribing • Ethical & legal aspect • Concerns – patient, family, nurse • Algorithms: • Management of pain • Terminal restlessness • Respiratory tract secretions • Breathlessness • Nausea & vomiting
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the session colleagues should be able to:
 
  • List common symptoms in the dying phase
  • Identify how to manage common symptoms  including non-pharmacological interventions
  • Discuss ethical & legal issues relating to anticipatory prescribing
  • Controlling symptoms in the dying phase
