Course Information
**IMPORTANT BOOKING INFORMATION** Colleagues are only required to attend the full-day training if they are completing the programme for the first time. If you have previously completed this training and are attending as a refresher, please book onto the half-day session instead. This ensures you receive the appropriate level of training and helps maximise available places for new attendees. All participants will be required to undertake an assessment relating to epilepsy awareness and rescue medication and must pass the assessment to obtain certificate of attendance. If you feel you may have any difficulty in completion of this assessment please discuss with a trainer as there will be alternative options available.
Learning Outcomes
  • To provide you with a knowledge and understanding for supporting individuals who have epilepsy.
  • To recognise common seizure types.
  • To understand common causes of epilepsy and possible triggers.
  • Know how to manage seizures.
  • Know how to record a seizure and understand the importance of an epilepsy care plan.
  • Have an understanding of when rescue medication may be required, its benefits and how to administer.
Refresher

3 years – can refresh with a further half day course or e-learner plus practical session.

Target Audience
All inpatient staff working with service users/patients who have epilepsy will attend Epilepsy Awareness training every two years. All staff who provide direct clinical care with service users/patients who have epilepsy will attend epilepsy training every two years.
