Course Information
This course, provides training for the Glasgow Coma Scale including the background history of the tool, rational for use, NICE Guidance, user guidance in relation to – eyes open, verbal response & motor response, levels of severity & correct steps to take.
It is provided for registered nursing staff band 5 and above working in inpatient setting, to further develop their knowledge and understanding of Glasgow Coma Scale.

Learning Outcomes
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of improving safety and quality of person-centred care using evidenced based practice and policy compliance, in relation to Glasgow Coma Scale.
Have awareness of NICE Guidance in relation to Glasgow Coma Scale.
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding in the completion of assessment tool Glasgow Coma Scale.
Understanding of the various elements of the tool for completion for example, eyes open/verbal response/motor response.
Impact of a potential head injury on vital signs & NEWS2 score.
Levels of severity and steps to take to ensure patient safety.
Partake in a quiz to test knowledge and staff to work in pairs to complete some scenarios.
