Course Information
This is a half day practical course covering all aspects of patient handling.
Staff attending the training are requested to wear appropriate clothing and footwear to participate safely and fully in the practical aspects of the training.
Learning Outcomes
How to conduct a basic mobility assessment then complete a sit to stand transfer
Use of Etac stand and turn aid, Molift Raiser/Return, ARJO Steady & Mini Lift / Oxford Journey
Safe use of a wheelchair
Basic functions of a bed and bedrails safety check
Inserting / removing slide sheets and using them to move a person on a bed
Use of in-bed slide sheets with a hoist and wedge
Use of mobile hoist and correct application of a sling
The ELK emergency lifting cushion
Managing a fallen person
Use of equipment for low level working

Target Audience
People employed in roles that would be required to prescribe or use manual handling equipment, such as; profiling beds, hoists, slide sheets and wheelchairs. Example staff groups include;
• Ward based clinical staff (HCA’s, Nurses, OT’s, Physios).
• Occupational and Physio Therapists in all community roles
• Physical Health HCA’s & Nurses in community roles such as Community Matrons & District Nursing
