Course Information
Motivational interviewing is a technique that helps people find their own reasons to change through collaboration, empathy & personal responsibility. It is especially useful where there is resistance to change, such as in obesity, smoking cessation, or addiction. Some aspects of the techniques can be translated to management & leadership situations.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand the principles of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and how they can be used within the change process
- Understand the stages of change cycle
- Using group discussion, understand the place of MI in your clinical practice
- Using role play, practice the principles of MI
- Identify how MI techniques can be used to help your patients move towards change
Refresher
Target Audience
Clinical staff delivering direct patient care. Multidisciplinary participants are expected to include psychological therapies, nursing, medical, pharmacy, social care, AHPs, etc.
