Learning Outcomes

Aim:

This training will help staff gain a better understanding of what Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is and is not.
This training will assist staff in recognising that PBS can be used by a wide range of staff and that it is an approach that can help provide good quality support and care for people with a Learning Disability within our services.
 
Learning outcomes:
 
·         To gain an understanding of PBS and to receive an introduction to the Active Support Model.
·         Understand what is meant by “Behaviours of Concern”.
·         To gain an understanding that behaviours of concern occur for a reason and have a function for the individual.
·         To understand the importance of supporting communication.
·         To be able to demonstrate that by using a PBS approach to understanding the function of behaviour, a graded response can be used to support an individual when they are displaying behaviours of concern.
·         To gain an understanding of practices that may be thought of as restrictive and consider alternatives.
·         Recognise the need for Functional Assessment to identify the causes of behaviours of concern.
Be familiar with the content of a Positive Behaviour Support Plan.
