Course Information
Day 2 of a 4-day palliative and end-of-life care education program will demonstrate the benefits of advance care planning with patients and those important to them. Exploring how to complete, document and share advance care planning decisions within the MDT. Signs and symptoms of palliative care emergencies will be discussed and the different escalation and management options. An introduction to Hospice services will include examples of non-pharmacological methods of managing symptoms such as breathlessness and anxiety.

Advance care planning:

Discuss informal and formal Advance Care Planning

Recognise Advance Care Planning Documentation

Recognise when Best Interest Decisions are required and how advance care planning can contribute to this.


Palliative care emergencies:

Describe signs and symptoms of common palliative care emergencies

Discuss what investigations and actions are required when suspecting a palliative care emergency

Analyse the implications of treating vs not treating.
