Course Information
These sessions are designed to support your transition from student to autonomous professional, meet other early career professionals, and deepen your understanding of the operation and objectives of the Trust
Learning Outcomes

During your first preceptorship session, you’ll be introduced to the programme and meet the facilitators who offer pastoral support over the next 12 months. This session begins your transition from university to practice, offering space to reflect on how your learning connects to real‑world clinical work, and what this means within Mersey Care.

Each session in the programme has been endorsed by senior leaders from across the Trust. You’ll hear key messages from the Trust Board about our strategic direction, and explore how the Perfect Care goals link directly to everyday clinical practice.

Across the programme, you will:

  • Strengthen your professional identity while working within multidisciplinary teams, gaining insight into the roles and responsibilities of colleagues across the system.
  • Develop confidence in clinical decision‑making, including consent, capacity, medication, and applying patient and carer perspectives—alongside learning from situations that don’t go as planned.
  • Explore ways to improve quality of care, understanding how you can positively influence service improvement within the Trust.
  • Enhance your ability to support learners within your clinical area.
  • Build your understanding of trauma‑informed care, how trauma shapes a patient’s engagement with services, and how vicarious trauma can impact staff. You’ll also learn strategies for maintaining resilience and the value of supervision.

As you approach the end of your 12‑month preceptorship, you will be guided through the wide range of career pathways available—whether your future lies in clinical practice, leadership, research, or education.
