Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you will:

  • Have a greater awareness of the Trusts Handling of Medicines Policy.
  • Understand and be able to administer drugs and accurately document the administration of medications to service users in accordance with Trust policy.
  • Understand the legal and local requirements of a valid prescription.
  • Have a greater awareness of Trust specific documentation, drug and administration charts and the correct procedure for documenting when medicines are given - including under PGDs or verbal orders.
  • Have a greater awareness of the checking procedures available to ensure service user safety when handling medicines.
  • Understand why certain medicines are considered high risk and the different way these drugs are managed at Mersey Care NHS Trust.
  • Have a greater awareness of how to discharge service users safely in line with Trust policy and procedures.

Target Audience
This eLearning course is mandatory every 3 years for registered nursing staff, medical staff and pharmacy staff whose job role requires knowledge of safe & effective use of medicines. It is only MANDATORY for staff members who require if for their job role.
