Secure carers make an invaluable contribution and are essential partners in recovery. For services to be effective, carers must feel informed, supported, involved, and heard.
Secure Carer Awareness Training has been designed to enhance staff understanding of secure carers, their varied experiences, and the ways staff can identify, support, and involve them in patient care. The training highlights the vital role carers play within secure care systems and aims to strengthen staff confidence and capability when working collaboratively with them.
Learning Outcomes
Define what an unpaid carer is and describe the types of support they provied
Recognise the barriers faced by carers, including those supporting people in secure mental health service
Explain Mersey Care’s strategic approach to identifying, supporting and involving care
Identify local and national support services available to carers and confidently support carers to appropriate pathways
Demonstrate best-practice communication with carers including navigating confidentiality and information-sharing challenges
