The mentor will gain an understanding of what is required as a sign-off mentor regarding clinical currency and capability in the field in which the student is being assessed
The mentor will update their working knowledge of current programme requirements, practice assessment strategies, relevant changes in education and practice for the student they are assessing
The mentor will have a greater understanding of the NMC registration requirements and the contribution they make in the achievement of these requirements
The mentor will have an in-depth understanding of their accountability to the NMC for the decisions they must make to pass or fail a student when assessing proficiency requirements at the end of a programme.
