Course Information
The aim of the training is to enhance knowledge, skills, competencies and confidence of the workforce to carry out risk assessments, formulation, management and safety plans. The trust has an expectation that all Service Users should as a minimum be offered a safety plan.
Learning Outcomes
  • Understand why suicide prevention training is important and how this relates to completing risk assessments
  • Be aware of the National requirements and relevant documents in relation to Suicide, professional requirements, relevant supportive policies, other risks and Risk Assessment, including CPA processes.
  • Be aware of Mersey care requirements in relation to suicide, violence and Risk Assessment
  • Develop competencies in risk assessment, management and prevention
  • Be aware of the common misconceptions surrounding suicide
  • Develop skills in identification and management of suicidal thoughts and plans or potential for violence and what can be done to help mitigate these risks.
  • Be competent in and knowledgeable about when to share information and with whom
  • Appreciate the risk and protective factors that can be important in prevention of suicide and violence to others.
  • Work with common scenarios illustrating potential suicide or risk of violence and practice formulations and management plan.
  • Learn how to develop a collaborative Safety Plan with service users and significant others, learn core skills in completion and how to apply this to an individual’s risks of suicide.
  • Be aware that all Service Users in contact with Mersey care Services should be offered a safety plan
Refresher

eRISK will form part of the clinician’s competencies.

Staff should be given an electronic update notice for when they are due to reach the 3 year cut off period
Target Audience
All clinical staff from band 2 upwards to 8C medics including Allied Health professionals. The SME reserve the right to defer the completion of competencies from certain groups of staff based on their skills assessment through their training and roles, such as Psychiatrists and Psychologists. However, there is an expectation that all staff should be aware of the principles and content of the training course in order to support team practitioners.
